Rezeki

So, I got promoted. Heeee! It took effect 1st Feb but the funny thing is, I got sick for two weeks and only came into the office half way through the month.

What a way to start at my new position!

Anyway, it's been HECTIC since I returned. So much to do, so little time. I knew this when I accepted the position but sometimes the amount of work seems overwhelming. The team has been working well together, though I still haven't really found the time to properly sit down with them and initiate myself.

I have so many people to thank for my promotion, most of all my previous boss who was such a great mentor and friend. People have been asking when I'm gonna do an open table...hahahaha..it's not that I don't want to, it's just that I really need to find the time to do so. Insya'allah, hopefully early next month.

Till then, it's tons of work awaiting. Nothing comes for free anyway.

This is Where I Get All Mysterious and S@*t

So I finally made the appointment for this coming Saturday. Until then, I'm gonna try to keep my mind off it. Hopefully. I'll try.

Aku Aje la Kan...

...yang asyik pikirkan hati perasaan orang.

...yang make time untuk orang lain, eventhough menyusahkan aku kekadang.

...yang kena pendam perasaan sedih..nanti kena cop drama queen plak. Itu pun nak merajuk ke?? Dah tua sangat ke sampai cepat terasa hati?

Aku je la kan.

Terasa Macam Menang Oscar!

Today was kind of special. I was asked to attend a award ceremony where I was selected as one of the finalists for Manager of the Year.

27,000 employees.
Over 600 nominations.
63 people selected as finalist.

And I'm one of them.

To say I'm honored is an understatement. This goes way beyond anything I ever imagined in my years of service to The Company. It's always nice to be appreciated for your hard work and sacrifice and to get such a public acknowledgement make me want to shout at the top of my lungs, THANK YOU!!!

The actual winner will be announced tonight at the main ceremony. I'm dragging En. Rashid to come as part of my support team. As cheesy as this sounds, it really doesn't matter if I win or not. Just being nominated is already a big deal for me.

I hope I win the lucky draw though. Grand prize is a trip to Melbourne....sweet!!

I Could Blame Everything From Work to Studies to Pippa

It's been slow in Along's Blog world. I know, sorry for that. It's not that things have not been happening, it's just that too many things have been happening that I haven't been able to catch a breather to write it all down.

First, there was my mid terms which was kind of ok and kind of not ok. MIS was a mess. Thank god for the MCQ questions which was somewhat like the questions we studied before. I have no idea what crap I wrote for the essay questions. Plus the fact the lecturer came up to and asked my line of work and then frowned when I told him I was in the telecommunications line, like he was thinking "then you should know this already". Law was...hahahaha...like WTH? OK, I would really love it if the papers just got lost or destroyed somehow. Marketing was better, in the sense the hints that the prof gave really helped. Eventhough I forgot some points and just gave random examples in the end, at least I'm 80% sure most of what I wrote made sense.

OK, enough about my exams. After that whole fiesta, I was still away from the office to attend a two-day forum in K.L.C.C. It was really interesting and I'm glad I got to do some networking with big shots from local and regional companies. Too bad I didn't think ahead to print out my resume and pass that around, instead of just my name card...haha. It was amazing to find out that even with the many years I've been doing this product, there's just so much I still don't know and have yet to learn.

Some opportunities at a big change has also come about. Now I'm undergoing some soul searching exercises to figure out if I should take that leap of faith.

I've been so busy that I haven't even had time to read the news. Now I find out about Arnie Governator separating, Pippa Middleton's indecent photos and that really bad local case of bullying that got uploaded on Utube. Urghh...maybe I should continue to be ignorant of the news, life seems so much simpler.

Sidenote: talking about Pippa Middleton, did you guys catch the royal wedding 2 weeks back? I know, I know, old news now...but I just have to state how much I LOVE Catherine's wedding gown and how the whole shenanigan was classy, simple (in royal terms) and just marvelous. William looks handsome despite the bald spot (heh!) and both Best Man and Maid of Honor looked divine. Even the Queen looked chippy!!

Surprise!

Surprise 1: While I was heading out for lunch today, I bumped into my brother. He had just gotten back from a trip to Hawaii (Hawaii!!) with my SIL, who had a conference over there. We got talking about all the baby stuff they bought over there. Then he told me to come up to his office after lunch; got surprise.

Tada!!!!
*sorry for the picture quality, took it using handphone

Coach some more. Hehehehe...thanks bro, though I'm pretty sure my SIL had more to do with it than he did. So nice of them to think of me and it put me into such a good mood for the rest of the day.

Surprise 2: I came in a bit late for class because I had to pray Asar first. As I walked in, the lecturer was handing back our mid-term answer sheets to go through and check the markings. As she handed me mine, she smiled then said "Azlina got the highest score in the class. 68.5% (out of 80%)."

Walaweiii!! Malu la. But I was so pleasantly surprised, I honestly did not think I did that well since I was pressed for time and my hand was shaking all throughout the exam from writing so fast. However, apparently all that late night studying paid off.

Salam Maal Hijrah

Slow kan aku? Biasa la..karang dah 10 hari lepas Christmas, baru aku wish yer. Then New Year, aku sambut in Februari. Muahahaha...

Ni saja nak share email yang aku receive from kawan (thanks Lin!) tentang Hijrah yang sebenarnya.

*********************************************
Tadi ustadz ceramah pasal hijrah. Antara isi kandungannya ialah

2. Hijrah pasti ada kebajikan.

6. Ciri2 hijrah (kemenangan)
a. Berjaya menundukkan nafsu utk taat perintah Allah
b. Ibadah kepada Allah semakin sempurna
c. Islam semakin tersebar (ustad dok kata kita buat sambutan Maal Hijarh tapi masyarakat tetap semakin teruk..kalu baca doa awal dan akhir tahun tapi tidak berhijrah pun..itu pun konsep hijrah rasulullah)

***********************************
Agak terasa hina dan malu sendiri bila terbaca email ni sebab time Hari Maal Hijrah, aku tengah buat apa?

Ia sepatutnya satu proses yang mengambil masa tapi kekal. Jangan hari ni berhijrah ke arah baik, esok berhujrah balik ke arah jahat. Heeee.

Apa yang aku nak "hijrahkan" diri aku?
1. Taknak buang masa lagi.
2. Taknak buat keje last minute.
3. Taknak lengahkan waktu solat.
Eventho masa tu terhad sebab keje and sekolah part time...tapi kena usahakan.

Semoga berjaya. Amiiinn.

Vin Diesel, I Am Not

OK, it's just my luck when something great happens, something shitty has to happen to balance things out.

I was in a car accident last night.

I was on my way home from class when I lost control of the car and next thing I know, half the car is laying in a ditch while I'm screaming my head off. Luckily a minute later, a police car cruised by and helped me out. A minute later, a tow truck guy also stopped by. Whatever it was, I had to have hubby with me so I called him up. Turns out, he was still at work so it took him almost 40 minutes to get to the accident scene.

OK, here's what happened. Actually, I can't really recall what happened. I was making a turn, on a road I've been down thousands of times before, when I felt the car skid. I heard the crunching of pebbles, then the screeching of tyres and a loud thump as the car landed in the ditch.

The car is in pretty bad shape; the front bumper is all bruised while one of the back tyres totally broke off! Plus I think I busted the fuel tank, though I can't be sure coz it was dark and the accident scene wasn't well lit.

All in all, it could have been much worst. For several reasons, I consider myself pretty lucky.

1. There wasn't any cars in front or behind me. I would never forgive myself if anyone else had gotten hurt because of me.

2. I was alone in the car when the accident happened. God forbid, anything bad happens when I have hubby or my kids in the car with me. I would never want them to experience the trauma.

3. I didn't flip the car. I remember thinking to myself as the car skidded..."PLEASE DO NOT FLIP!!" The damage to the car would have been so much more plus I would have been pretty banged up too.

4. I was wearing my seatbelt. Other than some bruises on my knees from hitting the steering wheel, I'm ok. If I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt, my injuries could have been much worst.

5. The police was there within minutes and really helped calm me down. If I was to be stranded at the accident scene alone for more than 10 minutes, I would have lost it. I couldn't get out of the car without some help so most probably I would have turned into such a basketcase and hyperventilated constantly.

6. Whatever damage to the car, will hopefully be covered by our insurance. So other than the inconvenience of not having a 2nd car to drive, we're so ok with not having to fork out money to repair the car.

I wasn't speeding. But adding in all the factors of that night....it was raining, plus the road was full of small rocks and pebbles from the nearby construction site, plus I was really tired...I should have gone around the corner at a snail speed, rather than the usual speed.

So today I'm on leave. Hubby's gone to do the police report and settle everything that needs to be settled with the insurance company and the car workshop. I've been reliving last night over and over in my head (I admit, I'm still slightly traumatized).

It could have been much worst. Thank god it wasn't.

ps: Maybe I can audition for The Fast & The Furious Part 4 now I know how to drift a car. Heeee...

Worth The Sacrifice!

All that staying up until 3am doing bloody group assignments was so worth it! I finally got my results today.

Walla!!!

Happy…happy…happy.:))

I need to buy a BIG lunch for my coursemate Min coz she helped me pull through the agonizing accounts class. And also for my boss and staff, for all their support. And also hubby kot, eventhough he didn’t really do anything. Heeee.

I had my 1st class yesterday since the one on Tuesday was cancelled. The prof was ok, though he did scare quite a few students into changing sections during his introduction. Hahahaha, I think that was just a rouse to lessen the number of students in his class. He likes to mumble a lot but the way I’m seeing it, if I can survive Accounts, I can survive FM.

We have OM today. A bit anxious because the lecturer has the reputation of not teaching in class so most of his students need to do a lot of self studying. Hmmm…however, the upside is, most of his students also get A or A-. Dilemma!! I know the knowledge is worth more than the grade but I’m so lazy to go through the hassle of changing sections. I think I’ll just give this prof a chance first and see how he is 1st hand before thinking about changing classes.

Semangat!!!

The weekend after I wrote about my desire for a study table, I went (alone) to Ik.ea to get all the items in my previous post. A personal record, shopping at ik.ea only took me 40 minutes (add 15 minutes for searching for someone to help me place all the heavy items onto the trolley). Total damage: RM7++.

I was actually working that day so I did all my shopping before the event started. Thank you to the Deshman that help me put everything into my tiny myvi. Hehehe...kalau nak harapkan diri sendiri, ada pecah tingkap aku kejekan kot.

The next morning, I had a group discussion. When I got back, this is what I found in the kitchen.
Yaaaaa...En Rashid sudah masuk mood Tim "the toolman" Taylor.
The girls...helping...not so much.
The result. Hehehee...I scattered my books so the place looks "busy". Muahahha..
This is a cool clock. You have the time on one side.
Twist the top to show the alarm.
Twist again for the day and date.
Twist again for the temperature.

Don't ask me where I bought it; I got it for free. Hehehe..

En Rashid has promised to put an aircon in the room coz it does get rather humid in the afternoons (so close to the windows). As you can see, I place the fan so it cools me off directly in my face. Hah!

OKla, have to continue studying. My finals are in a week. Eeeeekkkkk!!!

Random

OK, enough about the cat lover. Here's random facts about what's going on at Casa Along.

1. Dania is having her exams this week and she only told me yesterday. She called me up at work for me to wish her luck. Her exact words were "Ibu, wish me luck. I have exams today but don't worry, I already read my books last night....when you were at school." Note, the last part of her sentence got me.

2. Dina is going to be 6 next week. My brother is going to have a makan2 session on Sunday (which my MOM told me about..and invited me to. Tuan rumah tak ajak pun...but who cares..:P) so I may crash the party with a birthday cake for her.

3. I got really good marks for my Econs paper!! Yeah!! I was a bit peeved that I lost marks for not understanding correctly the question but all in all, over 20, 18.7 is not bad. Not bad at all!! I just hope I can continue to pull in good marks for this class. My group presentation is due next Monday (to which the cat lover is also in my group) so this weekend will be used to complete that and the many other assignments pending.

4. Hubby and the girls may be going back to Melaka Friay night for hubby's cousin's wedding. Which means I'll be home alone again this weekend. But only until Saturday night since the makan2 session is on Sunday.

5. I may use the time alone to go visit my dear friend Noresh, who gave birth to a new baby boy 3 weeks back. I still have her Spanx she ordered. Heee...jangan marah ah Noresh. Anything, I'll call you.

6. I can't believe my 1st trimester is almost over. Only 2-3 more classes, then the Finals. Wow.

7. I'm on my 5th day of puasa enam. Hopefully I can complete before Syawal ends.

8. I need to wax my legs. Like seriously.

Alone

Kind of sad, cooking for one. Eating alone. Sitting at the kitchen table, with all my books scattered around.

I guess it doesn't help I have sad love songs playing via youtube in the background.

Haha!

But on the upside, I've got a lot done. Both homework and housework. Hopefully I can finish up my ME by tonight and concentrate on Accounts (Eeekkkkk!!!) tomorrow. I also intend to sweep upstairs and wash all the toilets.

Then hubby and the girls can come back to a nice, clean home.

1st Day of Ramadhan

Puasa tahun ni macam tak best. Sebab pertama, aku period semalam, so sah2 orang dah start puasa, aku still beraya. Raya apa? Hungry ghost kot. Sebab kedua, malam ni team aku ada presentation. Accounts lak tu. Subjek yang paling aku tak paham, dan asyik buat2 paham je time kelas. Sebab ketiga, bibik dah takde.

Nanti aku speaking balik yer.

Something To Get To Know You Better By

Since I'm poofed from my class assignments and won't have much time to write a proper post, let's do a bit of a psychological profiling exercise. Here's where I get my 3 readers to tell me more about themselves and I hope in the process, learn something about themselves as well.

OK, answer the following questions truthfully.

1) Think about your favorite colour and write down three adjectives describing that color.

2)Think about your favorite animal and write down three words describing that animal.

3) Now, think about an all white room. The walls are white, the floor is white, there is no sound in the room, no windows, everything is white. Now list three words to describe how that room makes you feel.

4) Lastly, think about a body of water. Any body of water whether it's an ocean, river, stream whatever. List three words describing that body of water.

Understand the questions? OK, now give me your answers in the comments. I'll let you know what they mean in my next post. Also, if I feel like sharing, I'll give you my answers too. Heee.

Tazkirah Hari Selesa - Solat Atau Sembahyang?

I recieved this email from a colleague, very eye opening. Hope we can all learn something from this.

*************************************

Semoga Allah merahmati usaha kita. Amin!.

One Week Down..14 More To Go

OK, so I’m done with my 1st week of school. As I mentioned, my first day was…interesting. 2nd day was much better; I had Organizational Behavior or OB as the students call it. The lecturer was very friendly and talkative and she made the 3 hours fly by. We had a funny ice breaking session where we had to draw our own faces on a piece of paper, which was then collected by the lecturer. She then gave us each one paper and told us to find the person whose face was on the paper. Some people had drawn their faces like a cartoon; round face with 3 dots for eyes and nose and a big smile. Hahahha, how la you’re suppose to recognize someone from that kind of drawing?!

For my 3rd day (yesterday), I arrived late eventhough the class started at 7pm instead of 630pm. It was raining heavily on the highway which of course caused massive jams. The class was a subject that filled me with a sense of despair; Accounting. Urghhh, I was never good at accounting in school. I could never balance any of my ledgers. The lecturer was ok, but he tends to mumble a bit. Also, he wrote in short form ALL THE TIME, which annoyed me to no end because SCF? ABC? FRS? What the heck?!! Fortunately my coursemate, who I also roped in as one of my teammates, knew a little bit of accounting and explained the term words to me. Argghh, I foresee a LOT of reading for me in that subject.

All in all, it has been an eye opening experience. I’ve already made some new friends and hopefully we’ll be able to support each other in tackling the subjects.

I miss my babies though. It’s hard coming back after a long day and seeing them already asleep. I miss hearing them tell me what they did in school. I miss having dinner with them. I miss sitting down with them to do their homework. I miss tucking them in at night.

I know it’s only for 3 days a week and at least I have weekends free to spend every waking minute with them. Here’s hoping the next two years go smoothly.

1st Day of School

Today was my 1st day back in school. Let's say it was...interesting, for lack of a better word. Since I had arrived at work at 830am on the dot (yeah me!), I had no guilt leaving the office at 530pm. Actually I left at 545pm since I decided to pray Asar first. Fortunately traffic was light, except the usual place on the Federal Highway. I arrived at Uni at exactly 630pm.

I had wrote neatly in my brand new notebook, Managerial Economics in classroom BK1. I made my way to the classroom and took a seat upfront. 5 minutes later, I found out that I was in the wrong classroom. Apparently they had switch rooms with another class. Great!! Now where was I supposed to go?!

One of the students told me to check the notice board in the hall. Doh!! As I scan the notice board (it was full of announcements), I found out that my class had been moved to BK2. OK, not so bad, just next door.

As I entered, there were already a few students there. All of them had their textbooks. Hmmm, something tells me I'm missing something. I sat down (upfront) and asked the lady beside me where she got the textbooks from. She told me to go to the office to pick up the textbook slip and then pass it to the guys out in the hall who had the textbooks.

So I made my way up to the office. Turns out I had to bring 2 copies of my registration slip, something that was not communicated to me orally but was announced in the student portal and on the bloody notice board downstairs. Since I didn't have my registration slip, I couldn't get my textbook slip and that meant no textbooks for me today. Grrrrr....

So I made my way back to the classroom. The professor was already there, giving his welcoming speech. I gave him my most charming smile and went to my seat. Somewhere in his speech, the professor mentioned the textbooks. "I hope you all have gotten your textbooks today."

Why, o why, did I have to raise my hand and admit I hadn't? The professor told me to quickly get them outside. When I explained I had forgotten my registration slip, he set his mouth into a thin line....and continued with his speech.

Hole, you may swallow me now!!

We had a quick break at 730pm for Maghrib and dinner. And when I say quick, it was like a 20 minute break. It took me 10 minutes to locate the surau and another 10 to complete my prayers. Which left m 20 seconds to grab my dinner and bring it into class. And proceed to stare at it throughout the rest of the class as my stomach rumbled hungrily. Sigh.

The lecture finished early as it was only an introduction lecture. The professor then called us to copy his slides from his laptop and he would be using them for the other lectures. Doh!! I left my thumbdrive at the office. Fortunately one of my coursemate told me she would email me the slides. Lifesaver!!

Note to self:
1) Check the Student Portal every week for announcements.
2) Bring a thumbdrive to class. Better yet, I wonder if En Rashid will buy me a netbook now that I'm a sexy college student. Hehehe.
3) Bring some drinks and biscuits to class, in case I can't squeeze in dinner during the break.

Ni Bukan Entri Kes Perasan

Cite ni berlaku time aku tengah pi dafter kelas pagi tadi. As usual, aku ni slow sket. Rupanya medical check up forms kena pi hantar ke Unit Kesihatan Pelajar. Yang aku ni, pi angkut sekali time nak pi daftar kelas. Sib baik la ada sorang amoi tu bagitau aku. Terima kasih ye amoi...kurang nasib baik untuk aku sebab kita tak ambik sama course, kalau tak, mesti aku bleh tiru assignment ko. Hehehe..

So lepas dah hantar borang medical semua, aku patah balik pi tempat mendaftar. Masa tengah serahkan forms yang berkenaan, minah yang jaga kaunter tu tanya aku "Dah konvo?"

Aku mula la penyakit blur tu mai. Soh minah tu ulang balik soklan.

"Dah konvo ke?"

"Errr..konvo....untuk apa?"

"Konvo degree."

Sambil tersenyum, aku pun jawab dengan yakin, "Oooo, dah 10 tahun dah konvo degree. Heheheh, ni dah tua dah baru nak ambik MBA."

"Heheheh...ye ke? Nampak muda..ingatkan baru habis degree."

Fewwwiiitttt!!! Statement yang menaikkan semangat aku sepanjang hari. Terima kasih ye adik Uni yang menyangka akak ni muda lagi. Memang muda pun....muda jiwa dan hati!!

Lalalalalalalaaalalalaaalala...*nyanyi sambil skipping sorang2 dalam rumah*
