My Last Haircut of the Year

Last weekend we went to my parent's house. We haven't been back in a while due to work and study commitments plus my nephew had been diagnosed with HFM (hand, foot and mouth disease) and was recuperating at my mom's place so I refused to take the kids there.

Since En Rashid had badminton on Friday night, we decided to go on Saturday. The whole day was basically spent catching up on stuff and playing cards with my parents. I won, hahahha...despite my dad's futile attempts to play dirty.

On Sunday, my mom took us (me and the girls) out for our haircut. The nearest shop was close so we decided to head to Subang.

This is Dina and Daria before their haircut.

Dina getting her haircut. When I asked the amoi how much it would cost to cut her hair, she said RM10. I bargained saying that Dina only needed her fringe cut. So the amoi charged us RM5 instead.

Daria getting anxious; do I have to cut my hair, ibu? Daria's hair is a nightmare in the sense, I could cut her hair today and next week it would be full and thick again. I asked the amoi to thin out Daria's hair at the back and make it short in front. Short enough that I didn't have to take her for a haircut for at least another month.
OK, this part I don't understand. It's not like she hasn't had a haircut before but Daria just lost it yesterday. She started crying, complete with tears running down her face, causing all of her hair to stick to her face. It took a lollipop to calm her down, even then she insisted in me holding her hand.

Here are the girls after their haircut. Not much difference actually because Dania and Dina only cut their fringe.

I got my hair cut also yesterday. Pretty dramatic one if you ask me.
On a good hair day, this is what I look like.....

The Girls' Hair Saloon Trip

Last weekend, I took the girls for their monthly haircut. Seriously, its like they have weeds on their heads. They could get a haircut today and by next week, complain about their hair already in their eyes.

So last week, my brother brought us to his friend's saloon near my mom's house. Dania and Dina went first and were done in no time. Then it was Daria's turn. The last time I took her for a haircut, she freaked out and cried most of the time.

This time was so much different. I guess from watching her sisters, she understood the concept that the hairdresser wasn't going to attack her with the scissors.

Uncle Alex was very good with Daria. When he wanted to cut her fringe, he told her to close her eyes. "Close your eyes, close your eyes adik."
Initially the girls complained that the short haircuts made them look like boys. But now it's kind of growing on them.I like it, especially since I don't have to worry about hair in their eyes anymore.

The Haircut and The Lie

Yesterday Dania came back from school with a new haircut. Her fringe had been cut super short, like 4 cm above her eyebrows.

Of course, being the concern parent that I am, I grilled her about her hair. What happened? Who did it? Why? Who else got their hair cut?

According to Dania, her teacher took her for a haircut coz her fringe was too long. I was kind of surprised because Bibik usually cuts the girls’ hair and she always makes sure their fringe is at least 1cm above their eyebrows. I asked Dania, did your teacher tell you your hair was long before she took you for the haircut? Yep, apparently her teacher had given her a warning last week but she forgot to tell me about it.

I sms’ed her teacher to inquire about the incident. I agree if what Dania told me was true, then what happened was her fault. However, I would have appreciated a heads up from the teacher especially since we had signed up for the SMS system (where the teacher would send an sms to the parent about anything regarding their child).

So this morning, Dania’s teacher called me up. I was in a meeting at the time so she sent me an sms instead. Her sms:

Salam Puan. Saya baru dapat tahu cerita pasal gunting rambut ni. Mereka gurau2 and kawan Dania tergunting sket rambut dia. Harap puan x marah, budak2 ni bila bergurau kita x jangka hal yang dibuatnya. Saya harap puan dapat maafkan kwn Dania tu, dia pun x dating arini, mungkin takut saya tanya mengapa buat gitu.

Translation: Salam puan. I just found out about the whole haircut incident. Dania was playing around with her friend and the friend accidently cut her hair. I hope you’ll understand, kids being kids, sometimes when they play together, we can’t expect what they’ll get into. I also hope you’ll forgive Dania’s friend. She didn’t come to school today, maybe she’s scared I’ll ask her about what happened yesterday.

Laaaaaaaaa….!!! Hmmppfftt!

OK, so conclusion? My little angel told me a BIG FAT LIE yesterday. The whole part about the teacher taking them for the haircut, she told her teacher that she had DREAMT that part. DREAMT IT?!!

I plan to slow talk her when I get back this evening. I can forgive the haircut part but this lying and making up stories?!! Unacceptable.

God help me when they all get older and discover boys. What stories will they come up with then? ARGHHHHH!!!!

Curtains, Hair Cut and Some Really Good Food

So yesterday I was suppose to go buy some new shoes, right? That was the plan before my mom called.

"Pssstt, ada plan. Ibu tengah boring la."

When my mom is bored, it's my responsibility to come up with some activities for us to do. Cancel the shoe shopping. What say you we go to Nilai 3 for some new curtains?

My mom and her maid came over after lunch. Since it was "curtain shopping", I told the girls to stay home. I did however drag hubby, since I wanted his opinion on which pattern to buy.

Mom took us to her usual tailor. After circling the shop several times, hubby selected this flower pattern for the curtains.

Hubby...and flower patterns??!!

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. The 1st patterns he choose, I rejected straight away. It looked like curtains for a kindergarten!! The 2nd one was slightly better but I had my eyes set on a more exclusive pattern.

Hubby wouldn't budge. In fact, he decided the whole house should get the same pattern.

Grrrrr...ok la. Demi hubby tersayang, berbunga la rumah kita lepas ni.

The funny thing is, when it was time to pay the deposit, I pulled out my credit card. Why the hell did I do that? Bang, minta balik duit RM400..terasa nak beli SK-II la. Heeee...

When we got home, I took the girls out for a haircut. My last haircut was 5 months ago (I think) so my hair was a mess! Since I wasn't sure what the current hair trend was (Lady Gaga?!), I just told the hairdresser to shorten the back and thin out the back a bit. For the girls, I gave them their usual "helmet" haircut. Muahahaha...

I had instructured my maid not to cook dinner as my mom was itching for some good Tomyam. We decided to take her to this restaurant we've passed by a couple of times (but never been) called Village View Restaurant. Sapa dok Bangi tau la restaurant ni, but we went to the one on the way to the UKM train station.

When we got there, the parking was rather packed. However, getting a place to sit was no problem as the place was huge!! I don't know if you can see from the photos (using my handphone) but the place had some really nice decor.

We ordered white rice, Tomyam campur, kangkung masak belacan, fried mushrooms, Kerapu masak pedas (spicy grouper) and some kerabu mangga.
Oya, we also ordered soursop juice for drinks. The waiter warned us since we had ordered fish, it would be at least 15-20 minutes until our food arrived.

As we waited, we watched the local drama showing on the big screen projector. Sapa yang tengok Cerekarama yang Ummi Aida lakon tu, apa ending cite tu? Tak sempat tengok habis.

Anyway, once our food arrived, we were amazed at the quantity. Even more so at the taste!

The tomyam was..how to say...tomyammy. Not like some places, where it tastes like watered down ketchup. The tanginest was just right and they weren't stingy with the ingredients. Tons of squid, prawns, chicken and meat bits inside. Very nice!

The fish was heavenly too. The sauce was what made it a hit, just spicy enough. You could tell the fish was really fresh.
The veges were remarkable too, not only for their taste but also their quantity.
We had ordered the tomyam for 2 people but everything else was for one. Still, it was a lot.
I loved the kerabu mangga. Unlike other places, they had less peanuts and more mango. For once, I had to force myself to finish that dish. Usually I'm wrestling with my mom for that dish but this time it was more than enough.

When it came time to pay, the bill was surprisingly low. For all that food, it only cost us RM73. The fish was slightly pricey because they calculated it by every 100 grams but it was worth it.

All in all, I give this place 4 1/2 stars out of 5. 1/2 star taken away just because they don't accept credit cards. But in terms of food and hospitality, I'll be coming to Village View Restaurant again and again.

ps: My mom was very happy and said we should bring my dad here to eat next time. Hubby was happy too and from the picture above, he was very, very, very full. Heeee.
