True Blood Vs. Twilight...Not Even a Fair Fight!

I know there's a lot of Twilight fans out there and that all of you are eagerly awaiting the "wedding of the year" (commence excessive eye rolling). But seriously, I just can't understand what's the big deal with Bella and Edward and Jacob.

Yes, just because I know their names, doesn't mean I secretly watch the movies. Or read the books. I would rather sit through a root canal. Hahaha..ok, exaggerating but just shows how much of a fan I am not.

Not that I didn't try to watch the movies. I did. I don't remember which one it was but all I can remember was...OH MY GOD!! Stop whining!! Stop yearning!! Stop frowning!!

Whine, whine, whine...look into distance...sit around in the dark, slouching...mumble, mumble, mumble..ignore parents...ignore friends...ignore food...whine some more..

God!!

Obviously I'm talking about that chick, Bella. Don't get me started on the vampires. Since when do vampires shimmer? How..ehem, metrosexual is that?

You wanna know what real vampire look like? Wanna know how real vampires should act and behave? Watch True Blood!

*Be warned..True Blood is 18SX rated..but then, vampires do always have all the fun anyway.

Here's a great article on why TB would totally kick Twilight ass.

http://tv.ign.com/articles/109/1094901p1.html

Sorry Twilight fans. Bill would totally have Edward for dinner. And Sookie would probably be the one cooking.

After Watching Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, I Realized....

...the actual hero (or rather heroin) of the story is not Sam Witwicky or Optimus Prime or BumbleBee. It's Carly.

After all that happened, it turns out that in order to win the war, it doesn't depend on what technology you have, or what type of guns you have, or what type of car you drive.

It depends on whether you can bitch-talk two "friends" into fighting and killing each other.

''You'll be nothing, but Sentinel's bitch!''

Hah!!

ps: Dania watched the movie with us and right after Carly delivered that line, she turned and looked at me and asked "What's a bitch?"

Thanks a lot, Michael Bay!!

A Review of the Weekend

Sorry guys for not updating my blog as much. The internet at home as been like WT%^$#*(@!%. Grrrr..
En Rashid and I finally took last Friday off to “celebrate” our anniversary. In the end, we spent it at the Immigration Office because we realized that our maid’s visa had expired!! Delightful!
On Saturday, we spent the day lounging around the house. Such a luxury nowadays. On Sunday, we took the girls to watch Cars 2. Daria, who was an angel the last time we took her to the movies, turned into the Tasmanian Devil this time. She refused to sit down in her chair and proceeded to turn around and “talk” to the people behind her. Horrors!! In the end, I took her outside and as it turned out, she had peed through her diaper. Great!!
I start classes today. After 9 weeks of break, the thought of staying up until 3am to complete assignments just doesn’t feel right. Hahaha. Plus, this trimester, we start our electives so most of my classmates will be scattered as some of us will be taking Marketing, Finance, HR, IB or General Management.
Min, we won’t be able to gossip and share titty jokes in class anymore!!! L
Really feeling the Monday Blues today. Plus I’m fasting so can’t use food as my refuge. *Sigh*

Because Pandas Are Awesome!!

En Rashid and I took leave today, which was a good thing because I finished the Law assignment at 4am. Padan muka, tunggu last minute lagi. Dah la Law, nak paham soklan dah setengah jam...nak carik fakta sejam lagi...nak tulis ayat berjam2. Bagus...dah nak subuh baru kepala cecah bantal. Uwaaa...

Anyway, we had promised to take the girls to see the Kungfu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom (I love the title!!). I checked our usual haunting grounds but most of them were sold out. Luckily En Rashid found some good seats in Mines. So we decided to take the 1st morning show and then have lunch there.

Initially we didn;t want to take Daria since she might not like being in a movie theater, dark and cold, with loud sounds. But En Rashid took pity on her and promised me that if Daria started crying, he would bring her out of the cinema hall and stay with her. OK, good...promise!

In the end, I was worried for nothing. Daria fell asleep in the car on the way to the mall so for the 1st half hour of the show, she was asleep on En Rashid's shoulder. I can't recall when she woke up but it did take a few minutes for her to adjust to the loud sounds and the big screen. She was scared initially but she relaxed seeing us all beside her. In the end, she actually enjoyed herself.

So how was the movie? Awesome!! Funnier than the 1st one, if I remember correctly. The stunts and animation effects were so smooth and I love how Mantis and Snake got to show more of their kungfu skills in this movie. The chemistry between Po and the Furious Five, especially Tigress is touching. The bad guy is also awesome. Who knew a peacock could be such a badass! I love the way the movie utilized the strength and uniqueness of each animal. And though I wish master Shifu got more screen time, whenever he's on, he commands the screen.

Inner peace....hehehe...

What more can I say...GO SEE THIS MOVIE!! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll gasp when you see all the kungfu warriors jump up in the air together in slo-mo (seriously, eveyone in the cinema went....Wahhhhhh!!!).

Plus, if you think Po as the Dragon Warrior is cute, wait till you see him as a baby panda. Too Cute!!

Along Pi Tengok Wayang Cite Melayu?

Yer...akhirnya. Walaupun aku memang pernah keluarkan statement "ko bayar aku pun, aku tak hingin tengok wayang cite melayu"...tapi akhirnya aku pasrah.

Demi ibu tersayang. Dah berapa kali orang tua tu dok call aku bagi hint "agak2 kat mana yer cite Nur Kasih tu tunjuk?" " agak2 arini ada ke cite wayang Nur Kasih tu?"

Alaa..cakap je la direct nak aku belikan tiket wayang tu, nak bawakkan pi tengok cite tu. Buat statement agak2 plak.

So in the end, aku belikan ibu aku tiket wayang cite Nur Kasih. Aku tanya, "ibu nak pi tengok ngan sapa?"

"Ntah yer..sapa nak ikut ibu ni?"

Sekali lagi dia bagi hint. Ok la, aku beli satu tiket jugak...follow sekali.Sekali ibu aku bagitau, eh Ayah pun nak ikut la.

Aaaa...kalau dah kluar dating, takyah la heret aku. Tapi aku nak jugak aku ikut. Dia kata, ayah tak paham cite tu..nanti penat dia nak explainkan backstory cite tu kat ayah aku.

OK, fine..kita bertiga pi tengok wayang (tak pernah buat keje macam ni). Tapi sebab nak heret aku, maka wajib datang ambik aku kat rumah and pergi tengok kat wayang dekat. Al.am.an.da la, mana lagi.

Kali ni, takmo ambik changes. Beli siap2 tiket online. Dulu dah kena masa nak pi tengok cite Rio...sampai kaunter, tiket tinggal sekeping. Muncung sedepa muka si Kaklong sebab tak dapat tengok wayang. Kakngah ok, dengan syarat popcorn tetap beli. Heee..

Sampai mall, around 4pm..cite start 510pm. Sempat ibu aku nak pi pekena bihun sup kejap kat food court dia.

Sok sek sok sek kat sebelah. Nak je aku gelakkan tapi aku tertido kejap. Heee. Awal cite dia macam melompat2 sket, sampai aku pun blur...ni future ke, current status ke, flashback ke. Isy. Aku bleh puji dia punya special effects sket la..kira takde la nampak cheap. Quite ok. Ending dia unexpected. Yang aku suka...ending dia menghilangkan sebarang kemungkinan ada Nur Kasih 2. Hehehehe...

POTC: On Stranger Tides Review

Last Friday, I got free tickets to see the fourth installment of the Pirates: On Stranger Tides. 3D some more. Heee. Initially I only got 1 ticket but as things worked out, some of my office mates were unable to go, so I managed to snag an extra ticket for En Rashid.

Tengok, aku nak enjoy, mesti nak ingat kat dia punya. Isteri mithali sungguh!

Anyway, the movie was at MV and started at 9pm, so while waiting for the cinema attendees to let us in, En Rashid took me for dinner at Burger King. Dah lama tak pekena mushroom grill burger. Initially we wanted to eat at Carl's Jr but the place was packed. 2nd choice BK also can la.

Anyway, back to the movie. Seeing it in 3D was a new experience for me. Sadly, it also made it a bit difficult for me since I already wear glasses, so my 3D glasses kept sliding off my face. An excuse to get contacts again?

The storyline was kind of cool. Not to spoil it too much for those who have yet to see the movie, here are some keywords:

Jack, funnier than ever
Barbossa in a wig
Evil Blackbeard with voodoo magic
Zombies (eeekkk!!)
Mermaids (double eekkk...you have to watch to know why)
Hot priest
Fountain of Youth

Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves. The scenes were amazing, the stunts and special effects too. Plus did you know, Blackbearda.k.a Edward Teach and his ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge actually existed?

Makhluk Halus....

Korang pernah tengok iklan2 macam ni tak? Kat area rumah aku banyak. Tiap kali lalu, mesti aku terpikir, apa maksud dia "cara halus?" Pakai toyol kah? Ada lagi ye toyol zaman i.Pad dan an.droid ni? Lepas tu, bleh pakai "khidmat" dia untuk hutang juta2 je plak tu. Setau aku, toyol tu kecik je. Camne dia nak angkut duit juta2 kluar rumah, bawak ke rumah tuan dia? Dia ada poket ala seluar kargo ke? Dia pi reramai ke, macam ala aladin & the forty thieves?

Banyak la soalan aku. Bukan pinta nak tengok (BUKAN!!!!), cuma curious je. Tapi takde la sampai tahap nak tengok ngan mata kepala aku sendiri.

Bibik gemuk aku dulu ada cite, kalau kat Indon, ramai orang bela toyol. Kalau jejalan nak pergi pasar ke, pergi shopping ke, kalau nampak orang berjalan sambil letak dua2 tangan kat belakang, jauh2 la sket. Itu tanda dia tengah bawak toyol dia jalan2 atas belakang dia.

Uwaaaa!!! Siap bawak toyol jalan2 tu. Ke time tu mencarik mangsa?

Ingat dulu masa kecik2, tengok filem hantu toyol tu. Time tu, sapa budak laki yang muka penyangak sikit kena panggil Bachuk. Paling takleh lupa time toyol tu dok panggil tuan dia.."Bachuuuuk..mari, Bachuuuuk." Uwaaaaa...mengapakah??!! Camne parents aku bleh bagi aku tengok cite tu kecik2 dulu? Dia punya effect dia sampai sekarang terasa tau. Yish...

Dulu masa aku kecik2, famili aku dok kat rumah arwah atok aku kat Keramat. Rumah atok aku ni ala banglow dibelah 3; ada rumah depan, ada rumah belakang, ada rumah atas. Semua ada entrance, bilik, dapur masing2. Famili aku dok kat rumah atas. Time ni kitaorang baru balik dari UK, ayah aku baru habis buat PhD. Orang baru balik dari England la katakan, cakap melayu pun berterabur la. Tapi time bermain tu, geng je ngan jiran2 sebelah. Antara member2 aku time tu Wan Nor Iza, Ajib ngan Joe. Umur lebih kurang sama. Selalu kitaorang main nyorok2 ataupun baling selipar. Kot time kitaorang tengah benci ngan bebudak lelaki tu, aku ngan Iza main batu seremban. Tak pun main getah.

Bila dah penat bermain, selalu pi rumah salah sorang la..pi songlap air sejuk kat peti ais. Rumah aku payah sket sebab ibu aku yang sangat garang tu asyik ada. So selalu rumah Iza la yang jadi mangsa. Mak dia single mom, so time keje memang free willy la kitaorang nak buat apa kat rumah dia.

Ada satu hari tu, kitaorang dah penat main baling2 selipar, pi la rumah Iza untuk minum. Time tu baru lepas raya, so banyak la air2 gas dalam botol dalam peti ais. Nikmat wa cakap lu...gaya minum macam togak todi! Nak beli sendiri manade duit. Hehehe. Sambil2 layan air gas sejuk tu, tengok2 TV, tetiba Ajib kluar cite hal kecurian yang dok happening kat area rumah kitaorang time tu. Dia cakap dia terdengar nenek dia cite hal toyol. Time tu, sebut je the "T" word, bulu roma, bulu hidung aku semua dah meremang dah. Si Joe ngan Iza ni dok beria2 la, tambah cerita, dengar dari orang sana, dengar cerita dari orang sini. Aku diam je la....baru balik UK maaa...mana aku ada cite nak add in pun...kang aku bukak cite werewolf plak kang.

Tetiba kan, tengah syok dengar diaorang bercerita, aku ternampak something lalu kat depan pintu rumah Iza. Memula aku ingat kucing tapi setau aku kucing Iza warna oren. Benda tadi tu warna hitam. Lepas tu takde pun aku nampak ekor melambai2. Memula aku ingat nak buat tak tau je la, and then aku terpandang muka Ajib. Putih muka mamat tu ko...mata terbeliak lagi pandang kat tingkap belakang TV Iza!!! Aku dah mula panik ah...apesal mamat ni? Aku cuit peha Iza, soh dia tengokkan Ajib tu. Then aku pun pandang la slow2 ke arah mana Ajib tengah pandang.

Sib baik takde apa2! Aku pun tak tau la apa aku nak buat kalau aku nampak apa2. Time tu Ajib pun dah mula ok...tapi dia cepat2 bangun and terus balik rumah dia. Takde cakap bye, takde see you tomorrow. Iza ngan Joe macam blur. Aku antara nak cakap ngan tak nak cakap apa aku nampak tadi. Sebabnya 1) aku pun tak sure sebenarnya apa benda tadi aku nampak 2) aku takut kalau aku cakap nanti, dia tetiba melompat muncul depan aku, macam dipanggil2 lak.

Agak dah lama lepas incident tu, baru la Ajib cerita apa yang dia nampak kat rumah Iza aritu.

Apa dia nampak? Eeeee...aku takmo cite la. Ni pun aku dah start seriau dah ni...benda dah lama terperap dalam long-term memory aku, tetiba jadi fresh lak. Nanti la...kot aku berani time siang2, aku cite balik. Ni dah malam, aku nak pi tidokan anak2 kejap (dan2 time ni nak jadi ibu mithali!).

Blog Tag - My Favorite 10 Movies

Punyala dah lama Apit tag aku soh buat entri ni. Dek sibuk ngan assignment manjang, tertangguh punya lama. Another reason is, susah gak nak namakan 10 movie paling disukai. Aku ni kaki wayang. Dulu kalau dating ngan En Rashid, tengok wayang je keje dia. TENGOK wayang yer, bukan BUAT wayang. Percayalah, aku budak baik dulu....muahahahaa (apesal gelak macam jin? no motive.)

Agak lama jugak aku nak come up ngan list aku ni. Ye ah, actually wayang cite orang dewasa ni dah lama gak aku tak tengok. Asyik2 dok tengok cite disney je. Dah tu yang anak2 aku suka heret pi tengok. Takkan nak ajak aku pi tengok cite Saw IV lak kan?

Okla, cukup meraban. Time to get down to business. Ni aku list down in no particular order. Mana datang ke kepala otak aku, aku catit.

1. The Road Home
1st time aku tengok cite ni, aku nangis tak hengat dunia!! Tersedu-sedu, sampai En Rashid pun panik. Member tengah tido, alih2 aku masuk bilik tido sambil menangis2. Tak pasal2, kena bangun tido pujuk aku. Tapi serious la, cite ni memang feeling habis. Eventho dah 3 kali aku tengok, tiap kali mesti nangis bangat punya la!! Sampai aritu kluar lagi kat TV, En Rashid dah warning, jangan tengok! Kang tak pasal2 nangis sampai bengkak2 mata. Uwaaaa...tapi itu cite banyak sedih...kena la nangis sampai air hidung semua kluar. Baru feel!!

2. Dirty Dancing
Cite ni dulu, aku selalu tengok ngan kekawan sekolah asrama dulu (Amoi! Nira! Fara! Kowie! Zam!). Part paling kitaorang suka, mesti part yang dia joget last2 tu. Time tu semua feeling Patrick Swayze nyanyi lagu tu untuk diri memasing. Time tu jugak la semua berangan nak pakai gown ala skirt kembang. Nanti pusing2, bleh terangkat2 gitu. Muahahahaa...giller poyos! Tapi cite ni memang best. Kalau tengok, mesti jatuh rindu pada kekawan lama aku yang dah bertahun tak jumpa. Mana korang ah?!!

3. Ghost
Pakcik Patrick lagi. Tapi kali ni, aku suka cite ni sebab watak Whoopie yang sangat lawak. And of course dia punya lagu Unchained Melody. Time tu jugak la terasa nak belajar buat pottery. Poyos lagi!! Dek cite ni jugak la, aku pi suruh amoi kedai gunting rambut potong rambut aku pendek giller ala Demi Moore. Balik rumah, kena hambat ngan ibu aku sebab dah rupa macam jantan!!

4. Grease
Cite ni lama giller, 1st time aku tengok, umur aku 5-6 tahun kot. Tapi time tu dah pandai jatuh cinta pada pakcik Travolta ni. And bercita2 bila besar nak jadi Pink Ladies. Cite ni aku rasa evergreen ah, tengok banyak kali pun tak muak. Walaupun sangat cheesy, tapi aku suka!!

5. My Wife is a Gangster 3
Ni Jojet kot yang introduce aku kat cite ni. Lawak tak hingat!! Tapi aku suka minah heroin ni, lawa. Dah aku pun bercita2 nak pandai martial arts macam dia. Muahahaha. "Hero2" cite ni yang buat best, ala gangster tak menjadi. Cite ni, aku tengok takde subtitle pun bleh ketawa terbahak2. Cam paham jer...

6. While You Were Sleeping
1st time aku tengok cite ni, masa kat wayang. Ngan sapa ntah...tapi lepas tu aku suka giler ngan Sandra Bullock. Cite ni pun sangat la sweet and romantik and funny. Aku paling suka part yang ada budak tukang hantar suratkhabar ke rumah orang tetiba jatuh basikal. Macam sangat random incident tu...lawak giller.

7. The Proposal
Ni lagi satu cite yang buat aku makin suka ngan Sandra Bullock. And of course, my toyboy, Ryan. Muahahaha. Betty White pun awesome dalam cite ni, lawak selamba je. Aku rasa kot orang lain berlakon dalam cite ni, mesti tak best sebab jalan cite dia agak lame jugak la. Tapi dek characters cite ni yang best, so cite ni pun jadi best! Oya, part Sandra ngan Ryan bogel dan berlanggar sesama dalam bilik tu, of course aku pause!! Muahahahaha...

8. Sixth Sense
Aku memang suka tengok cite hantu but most of them, aku tengok sekali lepas tu dah taknak tengok lagi. Reason either takut sangat or dah tak takut sebab dah tau cite dia. Tapi 6th Sense ni lain sket. Takut tapi aku suka tengok again and again sebab aku rasa cite ni sangat intelligent sebenarnya. Cara cerita dia unravel...memang aku terperanjat beruk la part twist ending dia.

9. Sleepless in Seattle
Aku rasa Meg Ryan sangat cute dalam cite ni. Ending dia pun sangat sweet. Time aku ngan En Rashid pi NY dulu, aku berangan nak jumpa jejaka kacak yang sedang menunggu aku kat atas Empire State Building. Bila naik, pusing2...balik2 jumpa muka En Rashid. Itu dah jodoh la tu namanya...takde Tom Hanks nak menunggu aku kat situ dah. Heeee.

10. Stand By Me
Aku suka cite ni sebab ada arwah husband aku yang dulu, River Pheonix. Eventhough time ni dia still budak2, tapi cara berlakon dia dah perghhh dah. Plus jalan cite dia best.

Movies that nearly made the cut: My Best Friends Wedding, Charlie's Angels, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Jaws, Dark Water.

Movie Review - Rapunzel: A Tangled Tale

Last Thursday, hubby took leave from work so we could take the girls to watch the latest Disney movie, Rapunzel: A Twisted Tale. Initially we wanted to watch it at Sun.way coz I was planning to do some serious shopping for the girls' school items (JJ card sale) but since the movie only had a 430pm showing, we decided to watch it at Mi.nes instead.

We had to wait for Dina to come back from school so we reached the movie theater around 5 minutes late. Fortunately the theater was not packed.

How was the movie? Awesome!! The visuals were really great so this is one to watch in 3D, if you can. Even in 2D, the animation was superb. The storyline was simple enough for the kids to enjoy, yet it also had some really funny punchlines for the adults to keep entertained. I particularly love the two main characters; Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder aka Eugene Fitzherbert. They were superbly voiced by Zachary Levi (Chuck!) and Mandy Moore. I never would have thought Chuck looked so good as animation. Heee. The supporting cast were also great; from Maximus the horse to Pascal the chameleon. The songs also were entertaining and did not bog down the flow of the storyline.

All in all, if you have the time, chill out and go watch Rapunzel. Bring some tissues for the ending as it might get a little teary eyed for some (psst..En Rashid...hehehe. Just kidding!)

Toy Story 3 - Review

Let’s take a break from my HK trip. Last weekend, we went back to Melaka (as per unwritten contract). As promised, we took the girls plus hubby’s nephew to see Toy Story 3.

I know a lot of buzz (lightyear..hah!) has been made about this movie and some of you are still waiting to watch it at the theaters, so I won’t be giving any spoilers here. Except this…..GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

If I had to name one special moment in the movie that did it for me, would it be…
- The opening act of Woody & Buzz Vs. Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.
- Their introduction to Sunnyside Daycare
- Ken's "playing dress up" scene
- Their escape from Sunnyside Daycare
- Spanish Buzz (I’m still laughing over that one!!)
- The incinerator scene (tears…nearly…hold them in!!)
- The final playtime with Andy (sob…almost lost it here…tahan, nanti En Rashid gelakkan!)

Ahh…this is one movie that I really think is worth the time and money to watch. Plus there are many important lessons for the kids, plus lots of laugh moments for the adults (adults no need to learn any lessons, meh?)

Thank you Pixar, for bringing us Woody, Buzz and the gang. It’s been fun playing with you guys.

Day Date With Iron Man 2

Yesterday the Company had its Annual General Meeting for the shareholders. As a result, all those who worked at HQ had to take yesterday off, to ensure the parking space was sufficient. Tau pun ada masalah parking kat office ni, time shareholders prihatin plak…time pekerja?!!

Anyway, since both hubby and I had the day off, we decided to go for a day date. What better way to reinforce our love for each other than to go watch Iron Man 2 and the great RDJ. Muahahahaha!!

We decided to head to MV since JJ was also have a JCard sale. Don’t assume it was my idea; hubby was the one with shopping on his mind. Ntah apa nak beli ntah, but he’ll find something to buy just because it’s on sale.

Since it was a weekday, traffic and parking was relatively easy. We arrived at the cinaplex at 11.55am and as luck would have it, there was a show at 12pm. Pergh, timing baik punya!!
I wanted to try out the twin seats (read: romantic) so hubby had to fork out extra for the tickets. Heee. When we went in, we found there were several other couples in the seats beside ours. And all of them were stuffing their faces with hotdogs, and waffles and popcorn. Yeah, seating in twin seats isn’t so romantic when various smells of food are circling around you.

What can I say about the movie? AWESOME!! Of course, it’s RDJ and usually I’m not so into action movies, but this one was great. I didn’t all get the “finding new element” part of the storyline (not a spoiler…not a spoiler!) but who cares? I got to see RDJ bring sexy back again. And Mickey Rourke as the bad guy? Over-the-top Incredible. Gwyneth was better in this movie than the last but surprisingly she was overshadowed by the sexy Scarlett Johansson, who literally kicked butt in this movie. To hubby’s surprise and delight, one of his favorite actor was also present; bad-ass Samuel L. Jackson.

After the movie ended, we headed to Carl’s Jr. to inhale some burgers. Seriously, we were both so famished, we finished those burgers in record time. We went shopping at JJ for Daria’s stuff and groceries and then Cocoa Trees for my weekly dosage of dark chocolate.

All in all, it was a great day date.

Whatever This Post Is About...

I have so much to write about but I can’t find the energy or right mood. My post about our Genting trip is half done. So is the post about my late grandmother. I think I need pictures for that one.

So far, the only thing I can write about is work, which is so….blearghhh!! It’s gotten so hectic that even the simplest things are NOT WORKING anymore. I don’t know whether to scream or just laugh myself crazy.

Oya, my Medela Harmony breastpump is still available for sale. Someone called me and said they wanted to buy it but somehow haven’t called me back with the details. In the meantime, I had told other interested buyers that it was off the market. Sigh…I guess its back on the market. This time, whoever pays up first gets to have the item. Sorry, no more booking allowed.

Thinking of going to see Alice In Wonderland 3D this week but hubby is swamped with work until the PROJECT launch (and I’m not?..*raised eyebrows*). I might go alone if I get bored enough.

Oya, need to jot this down. Last Saturday Daria took 5 steps forward before plunking down on her chubby bum!! She’s walking!! And she’s not even 10 months yet. Bravo..bravo, little girl. You make all of us proud. Too bad your mom was too busy encouraging you to take any videos of this historical event.

Solomon Kane - Review

Alert: This post may contain spoilers about the movie. Oh, who am I kidding..I’m going to be telling you everything I can remember so if you want to watch this movie and still be surprised, do not read this post. You have been warned!

While we were at Genting, we took some time to family bond over a movie. Initially we wanted to see Alice but it wasn’t shown in 3D, so Angah opted for us to watch Solomon Kane instead.
Now, don’t ask me about the book; there is no book. The dude (Solomon Kane) is a comic book character and those who know me, know I don’t do comics.

OK, before I begin, just let me say this. I had no idea what the movie was about but I was thinking it was probably dark coz the poster showed this figure of a looming man, complete with wide brimmed hat and sinister looks. However, I did not expect to be exposed to one of my greatest fear……

ZOMBIES!!!

Freaking zombies!! Oh my feeble heart cannot take zombies, especially if they’re super hungry and super fast and super strong and super intent on ripping out and feeding on human flesh. I freaked out watching I Am Legend (yes, I know, the whole movie is centered on zombies but I didn’t know that when I walked into the cinema) so naturally those scenes with the zombies found me clutching hubby’s arm, closing my eyes and whispering “damn, freaking zombies, damn, freaking zombies” again and again.

Ok, so now I’ve got my grouse about the zombies out of the way, let’s talk more about the movie. The main character is played by James Purefoy, who I’ve never heard of. Apparently he was in A Knight’s Tale and Resident Evil but I can’t recall seeing him. As the anti-hero Solomon Kane (SK), he was very good at delivering the emotions the character went through from arrogance, fear, helplessness, anger and so on. Sure, the dialog was a little monotonous but I’m glad they didn’t squeeze in any one-liners coz that would have totally killed the seriousness of the movie.

The cinema hall was freaking cold so it didn’t help that in nearly all the scenes, it was either raining or snowing. The movie must have some hefty dry cleaning bills!! The only scenes that would be considered “beautiful” was when SK was on his journey back home, walking amongst forests, hills and mountain sides.

The supporting characters were rather good, especially the family of puritans travelling to the New World. Max von Sydow who plays SK’s father also stole the limelight in his short scenes. The villain on the other hand was rather….lame. Claiming to be so powerful, it only took a single bullet for SK to kill him. Plus the CGI demon in the end…yeah, could have done without that.
The storyline is heavy not only with Christianity themes but also wizardry and demons. Oya, other than freaking demons, they also had a freaking witch but this was no ordinary witch. No, this biyatch could camouflage herself as an unassuming little girl and then turn into an ugly old woman, who can fly without needing a broomstick and mark you with her fingernails. Creepy!
Yep, this movie was rather creepy, in my opinion. There were some cheap thrills but overall, the scares were very good. Especially the opening scene where SK’s men get eaten by mirror demons. Hmmm, you’ll just have to watch the movie to find out what I mean. Oya, and the ZOMBIE part. *Shudder*.

Would I recommend you to watch this? Well, seeing how it wasn’t really my cup of tea, plus it had freaking ZOMBIES in it, I can’t say I would watch it again. They could have done with a better villain plus the end of the movie felt as if the director just ran out of steam (or money). If you’re into medieval period movies or stuff like Highlander, then maybe this is the movie for you. But if you’re a pure chick flick type of person, stay away from this movie. You might get ZOMBIE nightmares like I do.

As....Asmidar!!

Wallawei....depa nak tayangkan balik cite ni esok. Fuyoo, ternostalgia aku kejap. Kalau dek kerana aku terpaksa keje esok, mau dah angkat kaki pi layan ni.

Time tayang cite ni dulu, aku darjah 3 kot. Asal dahi licin sket, masuk jadi pelakon. Padahal dia punya berlakon tu, batang mop lagi ada feeling!

Cite ni aku suka sebab jalan cite dia sempoi je. Lawak dia pun mengena, tanpa perlu buat reaksi2 bodoh. Lawak selamba. Dek dulu selalu layan cite ni, ada la gak aku hafal sket2 dialog dia.

"Ni aku ambik khas untuk you...well done."
"I tak suka yang well done."

"Wuuuu...tiada maaf bagimu (sambil gelak2)"

"Huh..?? mana..? mana katak..?"
"Tidak Puan.. tadi ada satu ekor katak besar.. masuk puan.."
(semua gelak ramai2)

"ALI SETAN anak berok.. anak monyet.. aku menyampah... anak iblis... kau sakitkan hati aku.."

"Semakin As membenci Ali, Semakin As menyanyanginya kak....huk huk."

"Jangan main tudoh-tudoh!"

Earth

I saw this movie trailer on apple.com and I think it's one movie that my whole family would love. My favorite animals in the world are polar bears while hubby loves whales. The girls are into all kind of animals but they do especially love elephants.

After seeing so much of the ugliness that's been going around us, I think we need to see more movies like this to remind us of how lucky we are to have this beautiful planet to live on.

Stop War, Make Peace!

Love our Earth!!

I Heart Youtube

I upgraded my blog template. The layout looks a bit funny, especially the header but it will have to do for now. Maybe when I’m in the mood, I’ll tweak around with the layout some more. I lost some of the gadgets from my previous template like my Shoutbox and various links. Luckily I saved the old template’s coding so maybe I can still salvage those. Also, since Blogrolling has been down for some time, I decided to just use Bloggers’ bloglist widget. I think I’m still missing a few blogs though. If you find that your blog is no longer on my Blogger’s Delight list, please let me know.

I added a few widgets, like the Follower’s list (baru sorang…hehehehe) and a music playlist. Konon nak bagi nampak funky la tu. Excuse the Mandy Moore song but ever since I watched A Walk To Remember (courtesy of youtube), the song has been playing in my head again and again. I rather like it plus Mandy Moore can actually sing. And actually the movie isn’t all that bad. Kind of predictable (teenage romance and all) but still quite sad at the end.

Speaking of youtube, that site was my salvation during my resting period at home. It’s amazing how many movies I got to watch (for free!!). I was able to watch Misery (finally…I had been trying to see that movie like forever!!), Brokeback Mountain (heh…), all 3 films about Anne of Green Gables, Penelope, Atonement, Suicide Club and a few more I can’t recall.

Misery – fabulous!! Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes is dead on!! Totally Oscar worthy. James Caan’s performance was not too shabby either. I cringed during the infamous “sledgehammer scene”…Oh My God!!! I love Stephen King’s books and I thought this movie was a good representation of it, eventhough they did change a number of scenes to suit movie goers. Go see it!

Brokeback Mountain – ok I admit, I watched it because I was curious about..you know, the whole gay cowboy thingy. Turns out it wasn’t that big of a deal; the “scene” was kind of shot in the dark to begin with and you don’t actually see much. I did think the whole premise of the story, being about forbidden love and all was quite sad. I would say go watch it if you love movies with beautiful scenery and heavy moral issues. Oh, just to entice the guys, you get to see Anne Hathaway topless. Heeee…man, that girl sure “developed” alright.

Anne of Green Gables – this was one of my most favorite films when I was a teenager. Like all the girls my age at that time, I fell in love with Gilbert Blythe. Man, was he good looking! Plus I also loved Anne Shirley and her funny antics. The two follow up films were also very good but showed too little of Gilbert, in my opinion.

Penelope – This movie is rather recent so I was surprised to see it available on youtube. I was interested in it because it had James McAvoy in it. Heee. However, the movie was rather nice too. I thought Christina Ricci looked cute with a pig snout. Haha.

Atonement – again, James McAvoy. And Heather, you were right. The movie was kind of boring but I kind of cried at the ending. I blame my hormones. Hah.

Suicide Club – This is a Japanese Horror that I had heard about a few months back. Even with the subtitles, I didn’t actually understand the whole movie. If anything, just watch it for the gory suicide scenes. And believe me, they are rather gory.

Emotional

Yesterday I watched the movie Miss Potter which starred Renee Zellweger, Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson. It was just the type of movie I was looking for; romantic yet still light enough that I didn’t have to think much. It did have an extremely tragic scene which left me sobbing my eyes out. Dania was quite shocked to see me cry especially when I told her it was because of the movie. She proceeded to sit beside me and rub my back to make me feel better.

It’s been a while since I’ve cried because of a movie. I blame the hormones. I also blame the hormones for my state of mind nowadays; I’m constantly tired and nauseous. Luckily vomited is limited to mornings only but getting up is such a hassle. The earliest I can get to work is 930am and even that’s with much force on my part. I wish I could just wake up next morning and suddenly be 9 months pregnant; get this whole thing over and done with.

Movie Review - Wall-E

I had to wait until hubby was home to see this movie because the girls wanted to watch it as a whole family. Fortunately it was still showing in the theaters. Eventhough it was quite last minute, we managed to get tickets at Pyramid, only because they weren't showing it anymore at IOI (our usual movie lurking ground).

Now I realise why we love IOI so much and not the other "premium" places; the ticket prices. RM10 for an adult and Rm8 for a child. Fortunately Dina entered free but then she demanded popcorn so it all added up. But yes, the seats were much nicer (and cleaner) and eventhough we were quite up front (Row C), we didn't experience any of that "mega TV" effect; you know where you have to scan the screen left to right to see the whole scene because you're too up front.

The kids had seen the previews so they basically knew part of the storyline. They loved Wall-E and laughed at all the funny antics. When Eva landed, Dania asked "is that Wall-E's girlfriend?" Heee...apparently yes.

What do I think of this movie? I loved it and more importantly, the girls loved it too. I think Pixar did another excellent job. The animation was flawless (I loved the part where Wall-E brushes his hand against the Milky Way on the way to the Axiom) and the storyline had a simple yet deep meaning. Even the kids understood; if you don't take care of your home (Earth) one day we'll all have to live in space.

I loved all the characters especially M-O, that dude robot that kept cleaning everything. He was hilarious! I also loved the fact that the hero of the movie was a dudette, Eva. I mean I know the movie is about Wall-E but it is Eva who saves him and is the ultimate "Jack Bauer" of the movie. Other than "directive" I was half expecting her to say "Yippee Kaiyeah M*****F*****!!". Hahaha...Eva is Baddass!! Me likey.

Though I did think the movie dragged on a bit at the end, I loved the way it ended. If you see this, make sure you stay until the credits. The graphics and storyline give you hope.

Because if anything, Wall-E is also about hope. In our darkest hour, when everyone else has given up, if we believe in ourselves and have hope....anything is possible.

Verdict: 4 1/2 stars out of 5.

My Top Actors

I've just come out from a business case meeting and as usual, my head is spinning from all the numbers and calculations and justifications for the numbers, blah, blah, blah....

So in order to detox, I present you my list of "Must See" actors who I have major crushes on.

1. Edward Norton

Must I say more? What is there not to love about this guy? Not only is he yummilicious, he's also actually very talented. Just watch his st-st-st-stuttering breakthrough performance in Primal Fear. Than go watch The People vs Larry Flint. Then go watch American History X. And then come back to me and tell me how many actors can be that dynamic. .
This guy has been nominated for 2 Oscars and won various other awards, so obviously he's not just a pretty face. Plus I've always had a soft spot for guys who are slightly geeky but still easy on the eyes. I've watched nearly all of his movies (even the really bad Death to Smoochy & Keeping the Faith) and he has yet to fail in making me swoon. I [Heart] Edward Norton.

2. Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd is one of those guys where you see him everywhere but just can't place from where. I love him because he's funny but not in an obnoxious in-your-face kind of way (hint: Robbie Williams).
Although he's been stereotyped into the typical romantic comedy kind of movies, he manages to make each character unique. Just watch Clueless, The Object of My Affection (that's when I really noticed him), Knocked Up and Over Her Dead Body. He's one of those actors that you check out when the rest of the acting is bad. He makes bad movies bearable because of his cheekiness, good looks and genuinely good acting. I [Heart] Paul Rudd (but not as much as Edward Norton).

3. James McAvoy
This came as a surprise because I don't normally go for the pretty boy type. I've never had a crush on Tom Cruise and Brat Pitt has never tickled my fancy.
But there's something about James that I find very intriguing. Maybe because he's Scottish and I find Scottish men and their accent very sexy (go see: Sean Connery). I hardly recognized him in the first Narnia movie and thought his character had a rather creepy feel to it. Then I caught a few snippets of The Last King of Scotland and was blown away. When I saw the trailer for Penelope, I fell in love. I have yet to watch Atonement but plan to soon. Must remember to have lots of tissues. Oya, I'll be getting free tickets to see Wanted so YEAH!!

4. Robert Downey Jr
Even before Ironman and his facial hair, I've loved RD Jr for his acting. I think the first movie I saw him in was Only You, the one with Marisa Tomei.
I remember watching that tape until the reels almost fell apart; I kept rewinding to the part where he's on his knees and looking up to Marisa with his big blue eyes. Then I saw him in Natural Born Killer and his natural giddiness as an over enthusiastic journalist really had me. By being in US Marshall, Gothika and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, he made me watch movies I would normally avoid. He even made me watch Ally McBeal again, when I had gotten sick of the over-drama and forever whiningness of the series. And I love him for that.

5. River Phoenix [RIP]
Eventhough he's long gone, I still hold a place in my heart for River Phoenix. It's not easy getting over your first crush, especially when they go away so suddenly.
I remember exactly how I got to know about his death; my dorm mates, bless their hearts, pull me into the dorm and told me quietly and with much respect of his death. Apparently they had known for days and had deliberated on ways to tell me so I wouldn't freak out. I cried for days after that. I still have a newspaper cutting announcing his death in one of my old diaries. Out of all of his movies, I especially love his character from Stand By Me.
